Like many great American companies, Nesse Distribution got its start in a college dorm room. Founder Owen Essen had been buying and selling on eBay since before he could drive a car, but in 2015, while studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design, he began to solidify everything he’d learned about the emerging field of e-commerce and to develop systems for selling at scale. That year, he formally created Nesse Distribution. 

In the beginning, Nesse was largely focused on buying and selling existing products, either through wholesale or liquidation partnerships, or by finding arbitrage opportunities between different marketplaces, virtual or brick and mortar.

As time went on, Essen began to partner more closely with existing companies, including emerging brands like Seaplane Shirts, to help them manage their ecommerce presence. During this time, Essen discovered increasingly sophisticated approaches to mining internet search and sales data in order to find and meet unserved, or underserved, niches in demand.

Rather than trying to pair existing products to existing demand, which wasn’t always an exact fit, Essen eventually decided to rekindle his love of design and creating things and develop his own products in house specifically to meet the niches he was now able to discover.

Today Nesse owns and manages a portfolio of brands, across a diverse set of niches. We’re also constantly looking to expand our ecommerce expertise, including through the development of proprietary ecommerce software, which we hope will be helpful to other businesses as well as our own.

At our core, we’re a company that loves creating things, and continually evolving in what we do and how we do it.
